In Hong Kong, colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer. There were 2,270 people dead from colorectal cancer in 2022¹. Colorectal cancer generally evolves from large intestinal polyps, and the process can last up to 10 years. Although patients have no obvious symptoms in the early stage, their stools may already contain blood. In order to help patients with colorectal cancer receive early diagnosis and receive appropriate treatment as soon as possible, the Hong Kong Department of Health has fully implemented the "Colorectal Cancer Screening Program" starting in 2020. Those who meet the qualifications can take the test free of charge.

How to participate in the "Colorectal Cancer Screening Program"?

• Aged 50 to 75

• Hong Kong resident

• Joined the Electronic Health Record Sharing System

The steps are also very simple. Go to reVIVE for consultation and fecal occult blood test. If the test shows a positive result, which means there is a trace amount of blood that is invisible to the naked eye, you will need to arrange for a colonoscopy and have the polyps removed if necessary to avoid developing colorectal cancer.
